Voters approve bond request, elect Lauer to school board
Voters in the Stillwater Area Public School District approved a bond request to replace Lake Elmo and Andersen elementary schools, expand Oak-Land Middle School and improve safety and security district wide and at the high school during a special election on Nov. 7.
The bond was approved by a margin of 56.74 percent “yes” votes to 43.26 percent “no” votes.
Funding from the bond will help to address growth in the district, replace the district’s two oldest buildings and enhance safety of schools. The $175 million bond will be paid off over the next 20 years and cost a homeowner with a median priced home of $500,000 about $16 per month.
Lauer elected to the board
Voters also elected Chris Lauer to fill the remaining 3 years of a seat on the school board that was vacated when Eva Lee resigned in January. Lauer will be sworn into office on Nov. 28, 2023.
Election results are unofficial until canvassed at a special board meeting on Nov. 14.
