Back to School Information for Fall 2021
July 23, 2021
Hello Oak-Land Middle School Families,
I hope you are having a fantastic summer and are taking full advantage of the remaining weeks before school begins. We have been hard at work to ensure a great 2021-22 school year.
As the countdown to the new school year begins, I want to make sure you have all the necessary information to plan in advance and not be surprised. While dates and other details will be summarized in this letter, please use our website as a resource for any questions you may have and if you cannot find what you are looking for please contact our school at 351-8502.
Included in this letter you will find a supply list created specifically for each grade level. We encourage students to bring their supplies and drop them off in their locker during schedule pick-up. Schedule pick-up dates are listed below:
August 17 from 1:00-3:00 p.m./8th grade
August 18 from 1:00-3:00 p.m./7th grade
August 19 from 10:30 a.m. -12:00 p.m./6th grade
August 19 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Open to all 6th – 8th grade
During schedule pick-up students will get their yearbook picture taken, pick-up and walk their schedule, practice opening their locker, and sign-up for fall activities. We know afternoons can be hard for some families and apologize for any inconvenience. The reason we schedule this event during the specific timeframe is because we are working with numerous vendors, employees and a community education calendar as they use our building regularly. If you have a conflict with your date and or time, please call us and we will make sure you get what you need. This year we have added an evening time for any family who cannot get here during the day. Lastly, please know there will be two other opportunities early in the school year for students to get their pictures taken.
Oak-Land will be having parent information nights for each grade level. This gives parents/guardians the chance to meet teachers and staff and to walk their child’s schedule. Below is the schedule for parent information nights:
August 24 from 6-7 p.m. for 6th grade Parents/Guardians
August 26 from 6-7 p.m. for 7th grade Parents/Guardians
August 26 from 7-8 p.m. for 8th grade Parents/Guardians
All 7th grade students are required to have a physical and an up-to-date immunization record on file with our health office. This is a state requirement, please schedule necessary appointments with your doctor and provide a copy of the physical and the immunization record to our health office. Any 6th grade student participating in school sports will also need to have a physical on file with our health office.
One of the most asked questions from students is about cell phone use at school. Our staff has observed far too many instances of cell phone misuse that negatively impacts student learning. As a result students will be expected to leave their cell phones in their lockers during the academic day from 7:50 a.m. to 2:20 p.m. Students who need to be in contact with their family can ask permission from a teacher to use one of our school phones. Parents are welcome to contact our main office if there is an important message that needs to be relayed. We want students to feel safe at school and focused on learning, please help support us by making sure your child follows these guidelines.
Middle School done well provides a balanced approach to student growth and development. Our staff is excited to work with your family and child as they navigate these awkward, yet pivotal years. We are committed to your child’s academic needs, social/emotional development, and his or her overall well-being. In doing so we look forward to tapping into our students’ passions and interests, providing time for students to explore new topics, meet new friends, create relevant learning experiences, give back to our community, collaborate with others to solve problems and have fun as often as possible.
Our School Counselors will be in the office the week of August 16th. Please feel free to contact them with any scheduling needs or concerns. They are as follows:
6th grade – Mary Adamle, 651-351-8513, adamlem@
7th grade – Heather Goetz, 651-351-8510, goetzh@
8th grade – Julie Coe, 651-351-8508, coej@
As Principal of Oak-Land I will encourage each student to:
- Be kind to all, especially to yourself
- Commit to your growth as a balanced individual
- Grow from your successes and especially from your mistakes
- Pursue your passions and interests
- Accept who you are and accept others for who they are too
- Have fun and have a positive attitude
