What to do if your child was exposed to COVID-19

What to do if your child was exposed to COVID-19

Quarantine options

Each family needs to make the best choice for their child when it comes to COVID exposure and response. Here are the options for close contacts who quarantine:

  • 14 day quarantine is the safest (especially if the positive person is a household contact)
  • 10 day quarantine (without testing) is acceptable
  • 7 day quarantine with a negative molecular test on or after day 5

Contact your school's Health Office with any questions.

Household contacts

If someone in your household has a confirmed case of COVID-19, MDH recommends that siblings and all others who are not fully vaccinated or have not had lab confirmed COVID-19 within the last 90 days should stay home and away from all activities for at least 14 days.

If someone in your household has a confirmed case of COVID-19, at minimum, you should do your best to limit their exposure to others. Individuals with COVID-19 must quarantine and may not come to school. Others living in the home can continue to go to child care, school, youth program, camp and other community activities or they may choose to quarantine. All household members should continue to monitor for symptoms and consider being tested.
